FRIDAY NIGHT 5km UNDER THE LIGHTS, Battersea Park, April 29

Toby Cooke (13:58), who led home the first leg in the Southern 12-stage, ran his first sub-14 minute 5km to win clearly from Jacob Allen (14:06) and Alex Lepretre (14:09).

Holly Dixon (16:04) just missed her PB to be leading woman ahead of Louise Small (16:28) and Megan Marchant (16:29) who both set PB’s.

M45 masters international Andy Bond’s 15:26 PB was the pick of the age group performances while English Schools cross-country champion Louis Small was the fastest under-20 with 14:30 from his twin brother Jack’s 14:36.

MOTA-VATION SERIES Race 1, Charlton-on-Otmoor, Oxfordshire, April 28

The series was able to stage just a single race last year as the pandemic restrictions eased, but is now on for a full series this year, Martin Duff reports.

It was Duncan Lawrence who narrowly squeezed home ahead of top veteran John Bolton but his Oxford City team were headed by Abingdon in the team stakes, as Junior Hugo Jinks took third.

Over a longer than usual course, compared to the series norms of about four miles, Lawrence clocked 26:54, for the approximate five-mile trip, to post his first ever win in this long running series.

Olivia Martin, the South of England under-17 women’s fifth placer, took the women’s race comfortably from Emily Strathdee, for Abingdon, also leading them to the team award over Witney, en-route.
