Paralympic hero Will Bayley achieves remarkable fundraising feat

Great British Paralympic hero Will unveiled his rainbow face mask campaign on social media in May as a way of giving back to Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH), a charity very close to his heart, having spent much of his childhood there.

The fundraiser has received huge backing since its inception with fans and celebrity figures alike showing their support. Strictly Come Dancing presenter Tess Daly, West Ham United football star Jack Wilshere and comedian Johnny Vegas are just some of the famous names to promote the campaign.

Proving an overwhelming success, the rainbow face mask initiative raised £25,000 (approximately $32,800) far surpassing even Will’s own expectations! Speaking to Inside the Games, Will spoke of the successful campaign and how it all came about:

“Like everyone, I’ve had a bit of spare time so me and my friend David Morgan wondered whether we help out Great Ormond Street Hospital because they had an emergency appeal for extra funds. I had my contacts from Strictly and Vikky Gill, who is the head designer for the show, said she would donate some face masks. We thought we’d just donate a couple of hundred but we’ve ended up doing so many more and it’s gone really well. It means everything for me to be able to give back to Great Ormond Street. I can honestly say that they saved my life so anything that I can do for them feels great.” Will Bayley

An incredible feat in support of a wonderful cause, Will is truly an inspiration both on and off the table!

The last few years have seen Will win gold at the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games, collect an MBE for his services toward table tennis and participate in the BBC show Strictly Come Dancing.

Will recently returned to training following a lengthy injury absence and will be keen to make up for lost time. Working hard to make his dreams become reality, the 32-year-old has both eyes firmly set on lighting up the stage in 2021.

Will’s task is clear for all to see as the Great British star aims to solidify his place at the top once again at next year’s Paralympic Games. Epic scenes of celebration engulfed the Riocentro Pavilion four years ago as Will struck men’s singles class 7 gold. He will be looking for a repeat performance in Tokyo.

The rainbow face mask campaign is still running and you can show your support by grabbing a mask of your own here.
