Some top names are set to compete at the live-streamed Triveneto Meeting in Italy on Saturday

Laura Muir, Jemma Reekie, Andrew Pozzi and Katarina Johnson-Thompson are among the athletes set to compete at the Triveneto Meeting in Italy on Saturday (August 1).

The return to competition of Muir (pictured) and Reekie is highly anticipated as they both race for the first time this summer, having spent the lockdown period training together in Glasgow.

It comes after an indoor season in which Reekie broke three British records, including Muir’s indoor 1500m and mile marks and the UK indoor 800m best.

In Trieste they will race over 800m along with their fellow Briton Ellie Baker, Switzerland’s Selina Büchel and France’s Rénelle Lamote.

Pozzi will be looking to build on his world-leading 110m hurdles time of 13.30 set in Savona two weeks ago, while world heptathlon champion Johnson-Thompson is entered for the 100m hurdles.

Another star name who had been ready to race is world 400m record-holder and Olympic champion Wayde van Niekerk as he continues his comeback after injury struggles.

He is entered for the 100m and 400m but on Friday there were reports that the South African had tested positive for Covid-19, although according to atleticalive.it, meet organiser Alessandro Coppola has said that is not official news and that further testing of athletes in Trieste will take place on Saturday morning.

Other entered athletes include Germany’s Tatjana Pinto in the 100m and Olympic champion Thiago Braz in the pole vault.
