Sources: LT Mailata, Eagles agree to 3-year deal

PHILADELPHIA -- The Philadelphia Eagles and left tackle Jordan Mailata reached an agreement on a three-year, $66 million extension Thursday that includes $48 million guaranteed and a $20 million signing bonus, sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter.

The deal ties Mailata to Philadelphia through the 2028 season. The $22 million per-year average puts him behind only Laremy Tunsil, Trent Williams and Andrew Thomas among the NFL's highest-paid offensive tackles.

Mailata, 27, is an Australian former rugby player who knew almost nothing about football when he came to the United States in January 2018 to train at IMG Academy in Florida. A little over three months later, the Eagles took a shot on 6-foot-8, 365-pound Mailata, trading up to draft him in the seventh round.

An unlikely success story unfolded from there. Mailata cracked the starting lineup in 2020 and has kept his grip on the starting left tackle spot ever since. A key member of one of the top offensive lines in football, he played in all 17 games last season and finished second in run block win rate (80%) behind teammate Lane Johnson.

This is the third contract Mailata has signed with the Eagles. They agreed to a three-year, $64 million extension back in 2021.

The Eagles are returning four starters from last season: Mailata, Johnson, Cam Jurgens and Landon Dickerson, who recently became the highest-paid guard in NFL history with a four-year extension worth up to $87 million. With All-Pro center Jason Kelce retiring, Jurgens is expected to move from right guard to center, leaving an opening at right guard.

Philadelphia finished first in run block win rate (77%) in 2023 and seventh in pass block win rate (63%).
