Takehiro Tomiyasu has signed a new contract with Arsenal keeping him at the club until 2026.

Sources have told ESPN that the Japan international's deal contains an option to extend by a further 12 months.

Tomiyasu's previous agreement ran to 2025 but Arsenal have moved to reward the 25-year-old after making 20 appearances for the club this season across all competitions.

"I want to achieve something," Tomiyasu said. "I want to win something with my teammates, with the supporters.

"I'm so happy to extend my contract because Arsenal is one of the best clubs in the world. And it's a dream to play for this club, so I'm happy."

Tomiyasu joined Arsenal from Bologna in August 2021 for 19.8 million ($25.1m) and has been capped 41 times by Japan.

He is sidelined with a calf problem but his versatility has been a useful asset for Arsenal, playing in both full-back positions and at centre-back as he battles to become a first-choice defender.

"We've got so many great players," continued Tomiyasu. "I'm playing as a full-back at Arsenal, but when I play with the national team, I'm playing centre-half. So I'm learning from the other defenders. They are so good. There's big competition between the players but it's a good environment to be a better player."

Tomiyasu is the latest Arsenal player to commit his future to the club, with Ben White extending until 2028 last week and Bukayo Saka and Martin Ødegaard also signing new long-term deals in the last 18 months.
