Fan matches Green fine with $25K to foundations

SAN FRANCISCO -- The fan who exchanged words with Golden State Warriors forward Draymond Green in Dallas -- resulting in Green being fined $25,000 -- has donated $12,500 to the Dubs Community Foundation and $12,503 to the Mavs Foundation.

A few days following the incident, which occurred with 11:20 remaining in the Warriors' 116-113 loss to the Mavericks, Dallas resident Alykhan Rehmatullah identified himself as the fan involved, and pledged to match Green's fine and donate money to the charity of Green's choice.

Green chose the Dubs Community Foundation, which is the Warriors organization's foundation geared toward supporting education, schools and youth in the Bay Area.

But Rehmatullah didn't stop there. He also donated to the Mavericks' foundation -- which works to help youth, women and families in need in the Dallas area -- to "spready the love to (his) team." He donated three more dollars to the Mavericks' foundation as a nod to their three-point victory over the Warriors.

Both Green and Warriors coach Steve Kerr acknowledged Rehmatullah's pledge before the donation was made, saying it was a cool and unique gesture. But, both said it doesn't negate the need for fan decorum and how fans are held accountable.

"Hopefully, next time there will just be no words exchanged at all and everybody can save their month," Kerr said prior to the Warriors' game against the Chicago Bulls on Saturday.

On Friday, Green told ESPN, "I have been around way too long. I don't have much faith in anything holding [fans] accountable and changing fan decorum."
