Sources: Ex-Spurs guard Primo clears waivers

Former San Antonio Spurs guard Joshua Primo has cleared waivers and become an unrestricted free agent, sources told ESPN on Monday.

Primo, the No. 12 pick in the 2021 NBA draft, was suddenly waived Friday night after several allegations of him exposing himself to women, sources told ESPN.

There is significant interest in monitoring Primo's future among numerous NBA teams, team executives told ESPN, but claiming the 19-year-old on waivers would have committed a team to paying him $8 million-plus in salary through the 2023-24 season -- a significant risk given the uncertainty surrounding his situation.

Attorney Tony Buzbee told ESPN on Saturday that he has been retained by a woman who worked for the Spurs and says Primo exposed himself to her. Buzbee and the woman are set to have a news conference Thursday morning. Buzbee also represented multiple women in the sexual misconduct lawsuits against Cleveland Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson.

The Spurs are now responsible for the balance of Primo's $4.1 million salary this year and $4.3 million in 2023-24.

In a statement to ESPN on Friday, Primo said he had suffered "previous trauma" and "will now take this time to focus on my mental health treatment more fully."
