Injured Wong out of WBBL, Amy Jones joins Sydney Thunder

England quick bowler Issy Wong has been ruled out of her WBBL season with Hobart Hurricanes due to injury.
Wong, who has previously played for Sydney Thunder, will be replaced by New Zealand allrounder Hayley Jensen who was a replacement player for Hurricanes in the 2020-21 season.

Wong's injury removes what could have been a cutting edge from Hurricanes' attack. She made her England debut across all three formats during the recent home season.

"It's really unfortunate for Issy the way this opportunity has come about for me, but I'm definitely going to take it with both hands," Jensen said. "It was a really unusual situation we were all in back in 2020 when I last played in the WBBL, but I felt really welcomed by the Hurricanes team and enjoyed my time in purple."

Meanwhile, Wong's England team-mate Amy Jones has signed for Sydney Thunder. Jones, who captained England at the end of their season when Heather Knight was injured and Nat Sciver took a break from the game, has had five seasons in the WBBL across Sydney Sixers and Perth Scorchers.

"Being named as captain of England came as a surprise, but I enjoyed the experience," Jones said. "The team management and I were very proud of how the team came together."

"During the series I learnt to back my cricketing instincts, but it also gave me a huge respect for the workload the captain has. That was the thing; I've learnt not to leave it all on the shoulders of just one person."

Jones will likely start as Thunder's wicketkeeper although they also have Tahlia Wilson in their squad. She joins fellow England player Tammy Beaumont and South Africa allrounder Chloe Tryon has Thunder's three overseas signings.

The side will be captained by Rachael Haynes in what will be her final professional cricket before retirement.
