Litchfield and Wilson hit maiden WNCL hundreds as New South Wales get back on track

New South Wales 7 for 302 (Litchfield 107, Wilson 101) beat Western Australia 244 (Piparo, Darke 51, Brown 3-60) by 58 runs

Phoebe Litchfield and Tahlia Wilson struck their maiden WNCL centuries as New South Wales put their early campaign back on track with a second victory in three days over Western Australia.

The pair added 195 for the second wicket, a New South Wales record, which put the home side on course for a total that proved far too much after Western Australia's second-wicket stand of 78 between Chloe Piparo and Maddy Darke had been broken.

Litchfield, the left-hander who is tipped to soon play for Australia, was first to the landmark from 102 balls with a perfect straight drive, fitting for an innings that had showcased her timing and placement. Shortly after Litchfield was taken at mid-off, Wilson followed with her hundred coming from 125 balls.

Ash Gardner and Erin Burns both scored briskly and New South Wales crossed 300 in the final over.

Lauren Cheatle, the left-arm pace bowler, claimed a major scalp on her return to the side after another injury lay-off when she removed the in-form Beth Mooney in the fifth over after Western Australia made a brisk start.

They were building a base from where the target may have been in reach, but Sammy-Jo Johnson struck in consecutive overs and Cheatle removed Darke shortly after her half-century. A ninth-wicket stand of 80 between Piepa Cleary and Taneale Peschel narrowed the margin.
